Sadness is a quiet, private thing, often hidden behind closed doors and fake words. Like any wound it is treated it like an ugly, shameful thing. It is only when we come to accept it for what it is, do we come to a realization that it is not something to be fought against, but embraced.

The intention behind this displays willingness to come to terms with difficult emotions and finding the strength required to forgive oneself. This is represented by the motifs of peace growing from the subject herself and the framing of an ornamental death-head moth, a symbol of both grief and emotional acceptance.
