Types of Preservations
At Black Crow Taxidermy & Art, we specialise in different forms of specimen preservation. Each method honours the natural beauty of the animal in a unique way, focusing on education, artistry, and respect.
TaxidermyTaxidermy is the art of preserving an animal’s natural form by carefully preparing the skin and mounting it over a sculpted structure. The goal is to recreate a lifelike posture that celebrates the animal’s character and beauty. It is both a scientific process and an artistic craft. As the preserved element is the skin, owners may still choose to have the remaining physical remains cremated and kept separately in an urn if they wish. |

MummificationMummification is a natural-style preservation method where the specimen is carefully preserved and treated to maintain its original form. Most internal structures and organs are preserved as they are, with only select organs removed when necessary. This makes it a less invasive option compared to Taxidermy. As every case is different, suitability for mummification is subject to assessment by our staff. |

Skeletal ArticulationSkeletal articulation involves carefully cleaning and reconstructing the skeletal structure of the specimen. Each bone is gently cleaned, thoughtfully positioned and assembled to display the structure in an accurate and educational way, highlighting the incredible design of anatomy. |

Wet PreservationWet preservation involves housing a specimen in a liquid solution within a sealed container. This method helps maintain delicate features and is often used for educational or scientific display. It offers a clear view of intricate anatomical details. Suitable for smaller animals only, subjected to assessment by our staff. |
DiaphonisationDiaphonisation is a specialised technique that stains bones and cartilage in different colours, making them visible through translucent tissue. Often used in scientific study, this method beautifully reveals the hidden skeletal structure in a striking and educational way. Suitable for smaller animals only, subjected to assessment by our staff. |
