FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How soon should I contact you?

As soon as possible. Preservation is time-sensitive, and early contact allows us to advise you on proper handling and the most suitable options available.

Which preservation option is right for my pet?

Every pet and every family is different. The most suitable method depends on the animal’s size, condition, and your personal wishes. We’ll guide you through the available options and recommend what would work best after an assessment.

What happens during the consultation?

We’ll discuss your wishes, explain suitable preservation methods, outline timelines, and answer any questions you may have. The goal is to provide clarity and reassurance so you can make an informed decision.

Is the process handled with care?

Yes. Every pet entrusted to us is treated with patience, dignity, and respect. We work in a calm, professional environment and handle each pet as if they were our own.

Can I still keep my pet’s ashes?

Yes. For preservation methods such as Taxidermy, where only the skin is prepared and preserved, owners may still choose cremation for the remaining physical remains and keep the ashes in an urn. We’re happy to guide you through the arrangement.

How should I prepare my pet before bringing them in?

If possible, place your pet in a clean plastic bag and keep them in a freezer as soon as possible to slow natural changes or decomposition. Avoid placing them directly in water or wrapping them in wet materials.

What if I’m not ready to decide immediately?

We understand that decisions can feel overwhelming. If possible, contact us early so we can advise on time-sensitive considerations. We will explain everything clearly so you can make an informed choice at your own pace. In the meantime, it is advisable to keep the body wrapped/bagged and frozen until you are able to handover to us.

How long will the process take?

Gentle Preservation takes time and care. At Black Crow Taxidermy & Art, we value proper preparation and lasting results. We will provide an estimated timeline during consultation. Our current queue wait-time is 12-13 months for a standard pet preservation procedure. Do contact us for Priority queue (6-7months) or Priority+ queue(3-4months) queries.

Will my preserved piece last?

Our pieces are made to Museum-Grade standards, with proper care and placement away from direct sunlight, moisture, and dust, preserved pieces can last for many years (Alike to the pieces in museums). We provide care instructions to help you maintain your piece over time.

Can I customise the final piece?

Yes. For applicable methods such as Taxidermy, Mummification or Skeletal Articulation, we can discuss the final pose & display style to create something meaningful to you. You may also opt to add your pet's toys and trinkets, preserved flowers, or wood engravings.

Will my preserved piece look exactly the same as before?

Preservation aims to honour your pet’s likeness as faithfully as possible. However, as with any handcrafted process, subtle variations may occur. We prioritise natural expression and respectful presentation.

Do you accept wildlife specimens?

Wildlife cases are assessed individually and must comply strictly with Singapore regulations. We work closely with relevant authorities where required.
